Doctor's bag [of John Strong]
This bag was donated by Elizabeth Strong, the daughter of John Strong. Professor John Strong was a lecturer at the University of Edinburgh, served in the Royal Army Medical Corps during the Second World War and was President of the Royal College of Physicians of Edinburgh between 1979 and 1982. Strong was particularly known for his research into endocrinology and nuclear medicine.
However, it is not definitively known that this was John Strong's bag. The bag has the initials 'M H' on the side.
It is a brown briefcase-like bag with both side and top pockets, which contains:
A wooden tray holding 7 glass vials
A metal case containing forceps, sterilised silk, scissors, three syringes and other tools
Two other metal instruments, one which comprises part of a set of forceps, the other unidentified
