Metal bar and wooden cane
Piece of iron bar and a piece of wooden cane. Label reads 'Police office Edinburgh 19th May 1868. The piece of iron and piece of stick referred to the case of Clementina Cameron found in the house of Benjamin Smith'. Signed Peter Malony and Charles Millar On reverse of label signed George Paterick.
Cameron was accused of child murder.
'CC did attack and assault the baby, compress the neck and throat of the child by means of a piece of cloth or other ligature and with a blade of a knife attached to a piece of wood or cane or some other sharp cutting device did cut and wound the child in its neck and throat. A willow basket, a handkerchief, a piece of wincey cloth, a petticoat, a shift, an apron, a towel, a piece of cane, and a piece of stick with the blade of a knife or other cutting instrument attached thereto.'

Wooden knife sheath
Cylindrical wooden tube with attached cord. Label reads 'Police Court, Edinburgh, 9th November 1928. The knife sheath with piece of cord attached referred to in the case of James Marr found on bench in workshop at 10 North West Rose Street Lane'.
Marr, age 48 years, married, a picture frame maker, was indicted for the murder of Mary Ann Mills.
'...on 9th November 1928, in the premises of 104 Rose Street, North Lane, Edinburgh, [Marr did] assault Mary Ann Mills, then residing at 4 Henry Place, Edinburgh, and did stab her with a knife or other sharp cutting instrument on the front of the right shoulder, and on the left chest, and on the inner side of the back of the right arm, and in two places over the lower left ribs, and in the left loin, and in the midline of the back and on the back close to the midline on the right side, and on the right side of the back, and you did murder the said Mary Ann Mills'.
The case files include a note, written on cardboard, which reads ‘Willie Bell I am sorry, I loved her'
