The College

The Royal College of Physicians of Edinburgh examines, educates and trains qualified doctors. The College was established by Royal Charter in 1681. Our heritage collections comprise tens of thousands of books and journals, along with the manuscript collections of eminent physicians and scientists and a wide range of medical objects.

The RCPE Artefacts Online project is only one of the digitisation projects which the College has carried out to enable remote access to our medical heritage collections.

Other collections which are available online are:

The correspondence of eighteenth century Scottish physician William Cullen

Over 10,000 of the College's nineteenth century books
